the society for the promotion of the La Gamba Field Station
The La Gamba Field Station was founded in 1993, following a purchase of land in the Esquinas rainforest initiated by the Austrian musician Prof. Michael Schnitzler. Thanks to the work of biologists from the University of Vienna, it has developed into a successful research station that has made positive contributions through its scientific and educational activities. In order to maintain the station and ensure that it remains financially secure, the Verein zur Förderung der Tropenstation La Gamba, Costa Rica ("society for the promotion of the La Gamba Field Station, Costa Rica") was set up to raise funds through membership subscriptions, donations and private sponsorship, as well as from the public sector. The society is open to anyone who is interested in the tropics, rainforests, Costa Rica or Latin America. This includes scientists conducting rainforest research, but also anyone with an interest in conservation and sustainable tourism who wishes to use (or who has already used) the La Gamba Field Station to discover the rainforest for themselves.
